It's Where Have ALL the Real McCoy's Gone Thing

Dear America,

from The Axe Files to Breitbart to G Thing:

“There was a time when we all got the news with the same facts, if you will,” he said. “We had three networks we watched for the evening news. Most of us got newspapers. Everybody in the middle class got a newspaper, so we got the same facts whether we agreed or not with them."

yeah, and there was a time, that, whenever we had to make a phone call, we had to talk through a curly telephone cord, that was connected to the wire in the wall, that was connected to a zillion other wires all over the planet -- and, at one time, it even cost us a whole dime to make that call across town.

And what about that part, "so we got the same facts whether we agreed or not with them?"

really, Romney?

Where do we begin with such idiocy?

So this is what Romney blames, in part, for the rise of conservative insurgents in the Republican Party...the proliferation of conservative radio, news sources, blogs and what not, that stir a fair portion of us Americans to rise up and put the old cog in the wacky wheel of government. saying "we're just not gonna take it anymore" -- and thereby, as he puts it, end the spirit of collaboration and compromise.

What's so funny about all of this, is that Romney worked so hard to convince many of us on the  right that he really was conservative, and that he really was the man, who not only AGREED with us on so many things, but that he could turn things around for all us -- to stop this gravy train of bureaucracy, to put a halt to the trillions in spending lunacy and take seriously the growing debt,  and to, dare I mention,  reform the country by taking us all the way back to some of our founding principles of governing  -- by Rule of Law -- which is, just for the record, neither right or left!  It is just law; and just you never mind that run-on sentence.

It is simply hilarious, isn't it?

It's as if nobody is safe anymore; nobody is a sure thing, a safe bet, the real McCoy.   Which is funny in and of itself -- for there isn't really a firm account as to how that age-old phrase originated.  Go figure; I'm quite certain if we handed it to congress to figure out, it would cost a whopping 535 billion dollars -- rounding conservatively to about a billion per soul (not to mention, a year's worth of work by "the insurgents" within to put a full-stop to the nonsense).  What a bloody hell waste of time that would be.

And here we are -- on the verge of ringing in a new speaker -- and once again,  the right gets pounded by hard realities of how one Paul Ryan is not All That (speaking in terms of his shaky conservative record meeting up with his boy-wonder-progressive-ideals...no wonder Romney picked him).

[By the way -- that link there on comments made by Mark Levin on Paul Ryan -- is generated on the progressive think tank Media Matters.org. -- nobody can say little g doesn't take turns and plays fair here.]
Over the weekend, a preacher on television was reminding his congregation how the "old world" worked under the rule of kings -- and specifically dating back to the age of Daniel in the Bible.  Anyway -- long story short -- it was just something that he said in the middle of this story that struck me spellbound.  For in the olden days, Kings could just write law and declare edicts all the day long.  Nobody could just say, well I don't agree, I don't think that's a good idea, nobody could even think about changing a thing -- it was the law...albeit according to this one man, the "king."

Now of course, this isn't something new to me; but you know the old saying, when the student is ready the teacher appears...it's kinda like that.

In the olden days, nobody would dare step up and become "the insurgent" within -- because it would make the king appear stupid, like he had made a mistake.  Everybody just sat back and took it, no matter how idiotic or how wrong or how oppressive the act, the edict, the law was.

Now wasn't that stupid, am I right?

The thing is today --

I declare that even though going back to the days we had to use the old-fashioned telly was in some ways liberating and wonderful in it's own way, dare I add, the reality is our world is expanding and evolving quickly and ferociously and with an operating system built in that never really stops.

And might I add the unseen dimension to the naked eye -- our American system of governing was designed with the cog in mind, "the cog" being the center of everything, really.  For that cog is the citizen; that cog is an opinion, a voice, an experience, and illuminated and made whole through the magic of becoming a representative in government.   And this "individual,"  this so-called "conservative insurgent" cannot, and shall not, be stifled, muted or even totally distinguished.

Government was originally designed to make writing new law and changing old law difficult, laborious even, for a reason -- to save us from a wayward, wanton king and his minions!   to save us from tyranny and oppression! to save us from ourselves!

Considering all things within the political climate these days -- we are running out of good cogs -- for it's the progressive left, the liberals, who seem to be writing ALL the laws, making ALL the changes, and running ALL amuck -- like KINGS.  Where is Romney whining about ALL of that?

Earth to Romney -- where in the world is THE LEFT making any compromise?  The right has done nothing but compromise -- compromising on our principles, compromising on the debt ceiling... the open border and sanctuary cities, the burdensome healthcare system, the new norm of compromising upon our national defense....and on and on and on.  The Left hasn't had to compromise on anything.

It's called getting everything they want; where is the compromise in that?

And you, Mr. Romney, lament the growing conservative insurgents?  The loss of the evening news?

Are you for real?

[it's rhetorical]

This morning, old G thing is lamenting the growing pit in my stomach wondering where all the real McCoy's have gone.

Let's just say, my faith -- in my fellow man and my country -- is feeling a wee bit domestically challenged today.

Make it a Good Day, G

It's a Coordinated Red Thread of Radicals to Fundamental Transformation Thing

Dear America,

did you really think "fundamental transformation" would look any different than this?

In order to get to the place that is thoroughly and fundamentally transformed, whatever operates in conflict with such a transformation -- either directly or indirectly -- must be removed, eliminated; all opposition must be taken out and become the new  non-event,  deemed obsolete and totally dispensable for the common good, and basically ridiculed, harassed and demonized until its gone.   poof!

Oh Alinsky rules, doesn't he?

What a brilliant, brilliant mind.

On the back cover of my edition of Rules for Radicals, A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals, a quote is offered up as enticement:

"Alinsky's techniques and teachings influenced generations of community and labor organizers, including the church-based group hiring a young [Barack] Obama to work on Chicago's South Side in the 1980's....Alinsky impressed a young [Hillary] Clinton, who was growing up in Park Ridge at the time Alinsky was the director of the Industrial Areas Foundation in Chicago."
-- Chicago Sun-Times

oh really?

What is happening within the IRS is not an anomaly of this administration, or the teachings and workings of Saul Alinsky -- or for that manner, the tactics and teachings and workings of a "young [Barack] Obama."

"I have no patience with it. I will not tolerate it and we will make sure we find out exactly what happened on this."  said the aged President Obama yesterday...“If you’ve got the IRS operating in anything less than a neutral and non-partisan way then that is outrageous, it is contrary to our traditions and people have to be accountable and it’s got to be fixed."
Earth to reality check:  "lower level bureaucrats" don't just shoot from the hip and out their paper pushing-behinds pursuing 'fundamental transformation', funneling their energies by attacking organizations formally supporting "the other side" without a directive from somewhere else.   That kind of thing comes from a coordinated effort somewhere higher up in the chain of command.

While a report this morning completes that thought -- to a degree, anyway -- by claiming management is to blame.

This didn't just start like last Friday, folks.  It isn't an isolated incident in and around "Cincinnati," okay...

A caller on today's RUSH LIMBAUGH reminded all of us how Joe, the plumber, was targeted by the IRS immediately after his brush up with the president in the 2008 campaign.   How dare you, Joe, speak to [Barack] Obama like that...questioning redistribution and all...we'll show you....and promptly plastering Joe's financials all over the place.

And check this out from Breitbart;  it details outrageous allegations against the Obama camp, returning to an issue that became campaign fodder over a year ago:

"NOM [National Organization of Marriage]   announced Tuesday that it will sue the IRS for this alleged leak. Under immense political pressure, Attorney General Eric Holder launched a criminal investigation into the IRS's actions. Congress will conduct its own investigation.

In early April 2012, NOM published documents which it said showed this leaked confidential information did not come from a “whistleblower” but “came directly from the Internal Revenue Service and was provided to NOM's political opponents, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).”

The Human Rights Campaign's president at the time, Joe Solmonese, "said in the release he felt Romney’s 'funding of a hate-filled campaign designed to drive a wedge between Americans is beyond despicable.' "  Oh right, because those of us who want to simply support traditional marriage are "hate-filled" bigots.   But the leveling of fundamental damage was in motion; in splendid liberal turn -- in perfect, synchronized coordination --  the full story was planted upon the pages of The Huffington Post with pride and prejudice.

And Joe -- Joe Solmonese --
oh he left the HRC and went on to work directly with the re-election campaign of [Barack] Obama the very next day.

"'After software removed the layers obscuring the document, it is shown that the document came from the Internal Revenue Service,' NOM asserted in its April 2012 release...Only the IRS would have the Form 990 with ‘Official Use’ information'....'The American people are entitled to know how a confidential tax return containing private donor information filed exclusively with the Internal Revenue Service has been given to our political opponents whose leader also happens to be co-chairing President Obama's reelection committee,' said [Brian] Brown."

“It is shocking that a political ally of President Obama's would come to possess and then publicly release a confidential tax return that came directly from the Internal Revenue Service," he declared. "We demand to know who is responsible for this criminal act and what the Administration is going to do to get to the bottom of it.”

Indeed.

Shocking.

Outrageous, even.

But you want to know what's even more outrageous?

What's outrageous is allowing Eric Holder investigate it.   We, the people, should feel secure leaving a political appointee of this regime in charge of investigating this crime?  Are you kidding me?

Do you even remember what [Barack] Obama calls the Tea Party?

He often refers to the genuine, grassroots efforts by everyday citizens generally recognized as the Tea Party, as Tea Baggers -- a gay slur -- forever linking the derogatory, vagrant, seedy slip of the tongue with the Tea Party.

And now remember how quickly it became cool to make fun of the Tea Party Patriots from coast to coast.

Ridicule and delegitimize opposition;  it's simply brass tack tactics for the typical community organizer.

And then there is this --

Oh, but first, one itty bitty caveat -- we can't prove it -- but the story about what happened to Larry Conners  is something to talk about...you know, given the timing of it and all...Reporter: IRS Pressured Me After I Asked Obama Tough Questions

pretty outrageous, no?   And thank you, BuzzFeed Politics, for that.

The new targets --  anything and everything opposing the rosy red regime.

See here.

And here.

And here.

[and thank you, Drudge, for a little help]

Have we fallen down a rabbit hole?  Are we in some kind of parallel America that really lives on the other side of the world, the other side of sanity, the other side of liberty, sitting fundamentally transformed  yet suffocating under a pillow of goose feathers and soft tyranny?

We can't ask tough questions of a president now?    Thank you, Larry.

We can't make our own video and post it on YouTube?  Thank you, one guy who made a video against the prophet Mohammed.

We can't even run a fair and balanced campaign running on the merits.

We can't bear arms?  Thank you, knee jerk reactions following the horror of Newtown....Oh, unless it's bearing arms for Fast & Furious or gun running in Benghazi.

We can't freely exercise our religion?  Thank you, Obamacare, just for starters.  Oooh and this reminds me -- MUST READ THIS:   Religion and Public Life in America, R.R. Reno, Editor of First Things, essay adapted from a speech for Hillsdale College National Leadership Seminar.

The outrageous things this shadow government stands for are finally coming to the surface.  The smudges are glaring, catching our eye no matter where we turn our heads.

But none of this should surprise any of us.

A sinister, creepy realization has come to light.    The uber-coordinated efforts to attack and eliminate opposition in order to FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM AMERICA through deep background and bureaucracy -- through any means possible and available -- even if it's illegal -- thank you A/P -- is hardly outrageous for a community organizer.  It's all in a day's work, and the more under-world the better.   Thank you, Chicago.

There is a coordinated, red thread chaining together each and every dereliction of duty -- whether it be from the Department of Justice, the State Department, the Executive Branch and the Office of the President of the United States.

The only thing really intolerable, inexcusable, and outrageous to the community organizer is getting caught.

That is what we see on the face of our president -- shame.  The shame of getting caught.

This is a sad day for America.

Outrageous and so sad.

Make it a Good Day, G

It's a Charming, Shining City on a Hill...and a Detroit Thing

Dear America,

it's all about a charmed city,  Detroit...more like a charming, shining city sitting on  a landfill.

Here's an excerpt from a news cycle circa a week ago; Daniel Howes of the Detroit News:

"Many failures contributed to GM's epic fall, but few emerged as more important than the failure of imagination by its leaders. They could not imagine GM, a cornerstone of industrial America for 100 years, bankrupt. It was GM; it was a bulwark in the Arsenal of Democracy; it helped put America and broad swaths of the world on wheels; its people and their communities were special, even entitled.

But they weren't. Decades of bad management and union overreach, of costly contracts and too much debt, of too many mediocre products and too few great ones, of too many strong competitors and too few customers, culminated in a colossal crash whose proximate cause is considered to be the global financial meltdown of 2008.

The city of Detroit is not any different, really. Bad management and union overreach, costly contracts and too much debt, dysfunctional politics and a steady stream of fleeing residents are combining to push the city into a brutal financial reckoning that will happen because it has to happen.

Feckless politicking by the mayor and council, by the city's unions and self-described 'activists,' by Detroit's delegation in the state Legislature over creation of regional lighting and transportation authorities doesn't help, either."
Jump starting how quickly things change -- more from the same guy, same publication, now highlighting the  evolving picture and opinion -- go:

"The evolving bankruptcy scenario is a clear signal that Gov. Rick Snyder and Treasurer Andy Dillon have lost confidence in the ability of the mayor, his management team and council to honor their commitments under the eight-month-old consent agreement with the state, or to make any meaningful progress on restructuring...

The goal of a managed bankruptcy is to streamline the protracted process by minimizing the chaos, uncertainty, delay and steep costs associated with Chapter 9. It would be the largest municipal bankruptcy in the nation's history, an unambiguous symbol of the city's epic failure and a chance for a fresh start...

In bankruptcy, pre-packaged deals arrange settlements with all creditors in advance of a filing that is usually followed quickly with a plan of reorganization (called "plan of adjustment" in Chapter 9). A pre-negotiated deal akin to the one being explored in the Governor's Office would reach settlements with some creditors and leave others to be litigated in court...

Planning for a possible bankruptcy of Detroit should not be surprising coming from Snyder, an accountant-turned-CEO, and Dillon, a former investment banker. Both possess keen financial minds, strategic savvy and a habit for planning further ahead than most politicians, particularly the elected officials in Detroit flailing from one crisis to the next.

In anticipation of Detroit's financial collapse, for example, Dillon retained an investment banking firm in December 2010 — before taking office — to advise the Treasury on ways to restructure Detroit's balance sheet, reduce its liabilities and return the city's credit rating to investment grade."
Enter Romney -- dating back to the now infamous NY Times op-ed, Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.  Of course, he wasn't referring to all of Detroit, just the car makers.

To cut to the chase -- after making a round of viable recommendations and shredding the corners with provocative opinion -- here is how he wrapped things up:

"But don’t ask Washington to give shareholders and bondholders a free pass — they bet on management and they lost.

The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk.

In a managed bankruptcy, the federal government would propel newly competitive and viable automakers, rather than seal their fate with a bailout check."

Now go to The Blaze for a stunning update on the expectations of the "47 percent."

Now go to The Washington Free Beacon for an update on the GM auto bailout lawsuit, currently speeding to a screeching halt.

Here's Obama, quoting Truman, in a speech circa Labor Day in Detroit, 2011, the president spins his union wheels, saying this:

"When labor thrives, so does the rest of the nation."

It's a line plucked from an old piece on Yahoo! News, placing the president on a pedestal, spilled milk and all.  It's also quick -- so click.  Although, on second thought -- considering the title alone, let me just save you some time (fully aware of the number of links in the rear-view mirror...oopsie daisy..sorry for making you work for it today) -- "President Obama Praises Detroit as City That's Coming Back."

Oh the vicious cycle we weave.
The latest jobs numbers are out today -- 146,000 jobs created in the month of November.  Here's a breakdown:  retailers = 53k, temporary help = 18k (Christmas is a good thing)  Education & Health = 18k, Auto Manufacturing.....wait for it...red light....red light....red light...green! A whopping 10, 000 jobs...but overall manufacturing fell by 7k, as that segment took a big hit from the loss of jobs @ Hostess, mostly blaming Ding Dongs and Twinkies instead of Hurricane Sandy.

Dare I say, if Romney had been elected, a half a million jobs would have been created in the remaining three weeks of November alone -- in part, on the overall confidence factor bulging at the seams, and second, upon the promise of the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, eliminating an entirely different concern altogether.  But what do I know, I'm just a girl.

Back to the comeback in Detroit...

And it was such a charming, shining city on a hill, too.
Crowned with the big three car makers -- seems all of Detroit is winning like Charlie Sheen now (just a retread of a favored line of mine..but feel free, go ahead and trash it).
Mr. President, how's that come back coming along?

Where is G going with all this?   Well, let me tell you.
All of this really amounts to a mounting case of how far America has fallen from our glory days.
The truth is, we are being manufactured all for show -- while increasingly, compromising on the things that truly matter.  It's only a matter of time before it catches up to us.

America is struggling because we have veered far and wide from doing the right thing.   We can't expect our children to have a moral backbone if we stop teaching the importance of ethical choices and abiding by a few golden rules, maybe ten; we can't expect our communities to grow responsibly and healthy, if we are being led by the corrupt; we can't expect industry to expand and exponentially effect the wealth and vibrancy of a nation, if we allow the free market to be ruled by a power elite more concerned with the propaganda and politics than the thoughtful, managed  process -- one that is unmistakably anchored in truth and sound economics, tooling freedom and liberty into every stitch and step.

Bottom line -- it's never a win if we screw somebody over to get it... or if we have to lie, cheat, steal, bulldoze or bury.  But in equal portion -- the lack of responsibility, accountability, commitment, and earnest participation to contribute positively for a better whole adds  a whole 'nother kind of counterproductive force.    Tragically, whether in the macro or micro, this is Detroit's reality.  It is simply a place that is a downright mess.

But the real rub (Turtle Wax, preferred), we can apply all the Obama-money in the world and Detroit will still fall.  And as goes Detroit, so goes a nation, or something like that.
Sometimes it takes hitting bottom before we realize the capricious, disobedience of our ways ....and means.  In order to make any gains, we must capitalize on the managed bankruptcy of the times and return to the ideals proven to really, truly work.

It's Just What Happens When We Let Ourselves Go Thing

Dear America,

you know what I'm thinking this morning...I'm thinking much of what we are witnessing today, experiencing today, enduring today, stems from having let ourselves go in America.

Initially this thought came from an unexpected candid remark of a remarkable and conservative and beautiful woman, my mom.   But that's what happens, right?  Something takes root inside us, we marinate on it for a little while, and just when we begin to think we have totally let it go, escaping  all recollection, it rebounds off the back of our mind like a boomerang.  bing.

It takes great effort, and good energy, to keep something alive, to stay in relationship, to uphold the integrity and strength of any given thing.

It's not like we can buy a home and expect it to maintain itself.

It's not like we can buy a plant and expect it to water itself.

It's not like we can bear a child and expect the darned thing to raise it's self [as a mom, I feel privileged to say things like that in an endearing way, of course.]

It's not like we can be in a marriage and expect it to nourish itself.

And we could go on and on....but will keep it to just one more:

It's not like we can live in America and expect it to honor itself, all on it's own, without every single one of us doing our duty to protect and defend and most importantly, understand, what this great land is all about.

The ideals set forth by our founders required all generations that follow to actually follow!  And they knew -- because they also recognized the weaknesses of being human -- that it would be a constant challenge; "If men were angels, no government would be necessary.  If angels were to govern men, neither external controls on government would be necessary."  (James Madison, the Federalist Papers)

The founders counted upon the nation to maintain the integrity of  the Republic by recreating an informed, educated, virtuous, and morally upright citizenry.   As Madison said:

"Is there no virtue among us? If there is not, we are in a wretched situation.  No theoretical checks, no form of government, can render us secure.  To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people, is a chimerical idea.  If there be sufficient virtue and intelligence in the community, it will be exercised in the selection of these men; so that we do not depend upon their virtue, or put confidence in our rulers, but in the people who are to choose them."

Compounding this notion with a thought from Thomas Jefferson :  "Virtue is not hereditary."

Meaning, we have to work at it -- collectively and individually, we must learn and develop and maintain and dare I say, even nourish! our own virtuous life in the every day.   For if we were to let ourselves go, then "no form of government can render us secure."

In The 5000 Year Leap, the author, W. Cleon Skousen, spends a great deal of time on our nation's foundation; I'm inclined to say 'America's foundation' is the red thread throughout the entire book.  Everything seems to bounce back to the firm, structurally sound, reliance on good self-government in order to create a good, foundation-ally and functionally enlightened Republic to last the generations.

Not only do we in America no longer teach the ways and means of a virtuous life - - we neither model it, speak it, or defend it....in the collective, that is....generally speaking, of course.

We can't even talk about living by our virtues (and that especially goes for all the time our children spend in the public school  domain) -- unless of course, we wish to be quickly labeled a fanatic, an extremist, a religious zealot.

Indeed, "a wretched situation" may be upon us.

The aim of our founders was an emphasis on creating an enlightened electorate in every stretch of the imagination, in order to keep this republic whole.

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.

...a crusade against ignorance; establish and improve the law for education the common people.  Let our people know that the people alone can protect us against these evils [of misgovernment]."

...all in for more Jefferson, all the time.

It takes work --  it takes effort -- it takes energy, to maintain a free people in a republic; we cannot expect it to grow and nourish itself.

The wretched thing is, we seem to be more disenchanted these days to do the work; or, we expect other people to do the work for us.  And now, it appears, to even utter so much as one word about it, we might as well have committed an act of violence against all humanity.

Take for example Bobby Jindal, yesterday....

Oh wait... first, it all started with this -- Mitt Romney, to supporters on a recent conference call:

“In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups,” Mr. Romney said.

“With regards to the young people, for instance, a forgiveness of college loan interest, was a big gift,” he said. “Free contraceptives were very big with young college-aged women. And then, finally, Obamacare also made a difference for them, because as you know, anybody now 26 years of age and younger was now going to be part of their parents’ plan, and that was a big gift to young people. They turned out in large numbers, a larger share in this election even than in 2008.”

Romney said Obama followed what he called the “old playbook” of seeking votes from specific interest groups, “especially the African-American community, the Hispanic community and young people,” the New York Times said. “In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups,” Romney said.

Mitt was only calling attention to a reality created by, and for,  the political life-force of progressives (we can't even call them liberals anymore).

But just how did Jindal -- aka one of his own -- respond?

"I think that's absolutely wrong," Jindal said. "We have got to stop dividing the American voters. We need to go after 100 percent of the votes, not 53 percent. We need to go after every single vote. ... So I absolutely reject that notion, that description. I think it's absolutely wrong. I don't think that represents where we are as a party, where we're going as a party. That has got to be one of the most fundamental takeaways from this election."

With all due respect, dear Bobby, the GOP is NOT the party doing the wooing and the dividing; that civic infidelity honor goes to the progressives.  And it isn't anything new, by the way; they have been working this demographic bombardment for a century.  How about we talk about that, Jindal?

For the Left, for the typical progressive, this kind of divide and conquer is so fundamental to their trickery and tactics, apparently, for some of us, it goes unnoticed, as if totally acceptable -- as if the Left holds a special clearance, some kind of politically-warped exception to the rule,  to systematically, unilaterally  (and oh so clandestine) be allowed to go there.

The problem is NOT in the governor going there.  The problem is that we, the Right, behave as if we are afraid to go there.

Earth to the new reality, and to the so-called new demographics we must compete against, and to the republican establishment that wishes it were bigger, brighter, bolder just like the democrats -- find some balls, juevos rancheros, cajones, before speaking up in public.  [yeah, and I don't even care if I spelled any of that wrong]

It is US - -conservatives in general, the masses in particular, and the liberals in droves -- who seem to have let ourselves go.

We have let ourselves go -- virtually without a fight for what I can see -- to those just waiting to pounce and take advantage of the unimaginable evolution of a certain wretched situation amongst us!

One of my favorites from Samuel Adams:

"The Utopian schemes of leveling [re-distribution of the wealth] and a community of goods [central ownership of the means of production and distribution], are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the Crown.  [These ideas] are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government, unconstitutional."

Perhaps Mitt stopped just shy of calling our new, cool governance "unconstitutional" -- but why not?

It is true, Bobby.

It is as true today, as it was in yesterday, in yesteryear.

[These ideas -- our Nation's Ideals]  Just because we have stopped teaching it, leading with it, modeling it in every way, doesn't make it any more unreal or untrue in the real world.

we've let our Truth go, America...

that is just the sad, sad truth.

But make no mistake:  Our Truth about Good Governance is not the problem; it is not the evil one. Our truth about maintaining Good Governance is by the Grace of God what has protected us, united us, and enriched us in every possible way....until quite possibly now... clearly stuck, aimlessly, it would seem,  in a wretched situation.

Contrary to popular belief -- or is it just a wave of modern day mainstream propaganda -- our ideals truly do work for every one, equally under the law, in true free form.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the foundation -- unless of course, you consider how humanity has perverted, corrupted, abridged, defiled, and defied our most precious principles, virtues, and Constitution, bringing it's very integrity into question and, ultimately, ripe for utter ruin.

other than that, let's keep on keepin' on, right?

Make it a Good Day, G

It's the Corner of Too Much Bull and Broad Thing

Dear America,

Business is Great
People are Terrific
Life is Wonderful

this is the kind of attitude all of us should have, all the time.

It was plastered to a bumper...and I thought to myself, whoa. I wanted to jump out of my car and meet them right then and there.  I wanted to see it, touch it, affirm it; I thought to myself, let's redistribute more of THAT!

You know the Gallup poll has a new number for the unemployed at 7.3% [whatever...]; while the underemployed number is holding at about 16.3%.   And I thought to myself, that's 23.6% of the faithful primarily unhappy in their daily purpose to create income.

Business is Great...
“As many of you know venture capital and private equity is one of the key mechanisms by which we finance new businesses in the state of Illinois,” state Sen. Obama said in a speech before the Illinois Senate on May 30, 2003.  “For a variety of reasons, Illinois has been lagging behind some of our competitor states in the formation of venture capital and its deployment in terms of seeding and funding new companies.”

This little tidbit is per ABC news, snapped from a post @ the Washington Free Beacon, titled "Obama Was For Venture Capital Before He Was Against It."

The article continues, saying:

Obama proposed a private equity task force in a resolution, in which he said that private equity “offers the best opportunity for long-term economic vitality, for the expansion of jobs, for the improvement of productivity and a quality standard of living, and for providing the greatest number of citizens with genuine opportunity.”

"[Private equity]offers the best opportunity for long-term economic vitality, for the expansion of jobs, for the improvement of productivity and a quality standard of living, and for providing the greatest number of citizens with genuine opportunity."  and yes -- it was worth repeating.

Just what has changed for you, Mr. President?

And if you believed it then, how come you despise it now?  Some might begin to think you are running that  Chevy Volt* dream car of yours all over the map, with that stark raving hypocrisy of yours riding shotgun. [*He really did say he wanted one]

And if what you said way back in 2003 is true -- which I, for one, would have to whole-heartedly agree with you  -- then wouldn't the mind and experience of a venture capitalist in the Oval Office be just the ticket?

Just imagine it!  Having a guy sitting in the Oval Office coming with 25 years Venture Capital experience -- creating the environment for the making of jobs, expanding companies, starting new businesses, changing lives, and creating wonderful.

And yet, we can't dwell on that thought for very long, as I couldn't help but notice another article at the same place, which began going something like this:

"The Washington Free Beacon has obtained a report soon to be released by the United Nations that calls for an international campaign of legal attacks and economic warfare on a group of American companies that do business in Israel, including Hewlett-Packard, Caterpillar Inc., and Motorola Solutions Inc."

and continues with:

"The Human Rights Council (HRC), a body dominated by Islamic countries and known for its hostility to, and heavy focus on, the Jewish State, issued the report. The George W. Bush administration refused to participate in the HRC, but President Barack Obama joined it soon after taking office. Members of the HRC include infamous human rights abusers such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Libya, China, and Cuba.

The Obama-approved body maintains a “Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories [sic].” The current rapporteur is American college professor Richard Falk, a 9/11 “truther” who once posted an anti-Semitic cartoon on his personal blog."
If so inclined, you can continue Reading HERE.

People are Terrific...

But allow me to get back to this business -- where is the president on this shocker?  Mr. " I'm all about Jobs, American Jobs, American Companies, American Competitiveness, American Stock" -- what are you planning on doing about this?  Holy Toledo.

And speaking of Toledo --  the two candidates are tied up in Ohio at 48%.  BUT -- did you hear?  Apparently, Chrysler is thinking about shipping the making of 'ALL or SOME' of it's JEEP line to CHINA.  I would hold up on that early vote until you find out more....you can start HERE.

Just think, Obama was out there on the campaign trail just yesterday and didn't say a word about it. huh.

Paul Bedard, of the Washington Examiner, mentions the president, the auto-bailout, a number of times, including this highlight:

"Obama is such a fan of Jeep that he included a picture of himself speaking at the Toledo plant in his newly released second term agenda binder. In his address to the plant in 2011, Obama said, 'I just took a short tour of the plant and watched some of you putting the finishing touches on the Wrangler. Now, as somebody reminded, I need to call it the 'iconic' Wrangler. And that's appropriate because when you think about what Wrangler has always symbolized. It symbolized freedom, adventure, hitting the open road, never looking back.'"
Well now -- looking back to that comment and Chrysler's new reality -- is that irony smacking the president right in the face with a few bumps in the road?   So prophetic, isn't it?   "I need to call it 'iconic' Wrangler" -- ya got that right given that Jeep is as good as gone baby gone in another year.

But hey, the President keeps saying he is a 'man we can trust' so he must be trustworthy because he also says he 'always says what he means, and means what he says, and trust matters'.  [...that is just the G crib notes of every speech made since the last debate]

...And only then does the same president spend the rest of his speech ridiculing his opponent about frivolous things that are either not true, misunderstood, exaggerated, or ridiculous.  He can't really talk about his message, or his policies, or his record, because nothing  has worked.  Scratch that -- it's worked -- but only on paper. It sounds good, anyway.

Speaking of things askew -- the polls are a fine example.  Up until now, most polls were dramatically pulling in Obama's favor across the board, mostly because they over-polled the democrats, and under-polled the independents and republicans.  Which is so strange...  I wonder if the operative being a liberal college or think tank has anything to do with it?

But notice how, as the election gets closer, the polling has made dramatic shifts and swings in Romney's favor.  What's happening?  A little thing called long-term investment:  the numbers need to be accurate, otherwise, the pollster loses all credibility.  If bias warps the reality, nobody would pay any attention to them next time around.

For example:  Consider the polling of the so-called and so-contrived "women's gap;" this hypothesis never had a chance.  The reality is we live in a wonderful world AND we, the people,  lean just right of center -- that being on most things political and economical and cultural [it's roughly a 60-40 split].  This means, when you get down to business, there are slightly more women who lean right.  The early numbers just didn't add up right from the start.   And on a personal note: Poll me! I've been voting all my life and have yet to get the call.

AND Obama refers to Romney as the big "bullsh&^%ter"....yeah right.  okay.

Oh Wait!  That reminds me of something fun to read.   Looking for a giggle?   Go to The Daily Caller HERE for The top five reasons Politico is garbage, in their own words, by Christopher Bedford. good stuff...

What I find troublesome, is the realization that this president -- in the natural, when he's confident in his surroundings -- really thinks Romney is a bullsh&*ter and is not afraid to say so.  He looks upon the guy's business experience with contempt; he thinks his ideas for economic change are simply too broad, not specific, and that must mean he's got nothing and he's just full of bull.

Piecing together the last few months of this presidency, the more disenchanted and disappointed I get.  I think to myself, just how in the world did this happen?

President Obama reveals "little to none" in the firm reliance department of understanding America's true corporate identity; for the words of our founders crafted exceptionalism and enterprise into our foundation with broad, magnificent, strokes, even though every word was carefully selected and meaningful to the core.

Life is Wonderful...

Now, I've got something really good to share from one of my favorite essays in the world, Compensation; it's timeless, thoughtful, and terrific -- and comes from the incredibly, creative spirit that is Ralph Waldo Emerson. [And I've quoted this passage before...circa March 2012...but it's so good, the repeat is totally worthy]  Here you go:

"All things are double, one against another. — Tit for tat; an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth; blood for blood; measure for measure; love for love. — Give and it shall be given you. — He that watereth shall be watered himself. — What will you have? quoth God; pay for it and take it. — Nothing venture, nothing have. — Thou shalt be paid exactly for what thou hast done, no more, no less. — Who doth not work shall not eat. — Harm watch, harm catch. — Curses always recoil on the head of him who imprecates them. — If you put a chain around the neck of a slave, the other end fastens itself around your own. — Bad counsel confounds the adviser. — The Devil is an ass.

It is thus written, because it is thus in life. Our action is overmastered and characterized above our will by the law of nature. We aim at a petty end quite aside from the public good, but our act arranges itself by irresistible magnetism in a line with the poles of the world.

A man cannot speak but he judges himself. With his will, or against his will, he draws his portrait to the eye of his companions by every word. Every opinion reacts on him who utters it. It is a thread-ball thrown at a mark, but the other end remains in the thrower's bag. Or, rather, it is a harpoon hurled at the whale, unwinding, as it flies, a coil of cord in the boat, and if the harpoon is not good, or not well thrown, it will go nigh to cut the steersman in twain, or to sink the boat."

GO HERE to EMERSON CENTRAL For the full dose.

I play a game with myself when I read Emerson -- depending upon what is going on in my life, something different jumps out...even if I am reading the same passage, pausing at the same paragraph, with the same words in front of me.

Today, that thing is this: "He that watereth, shall be watered himself."

Our Declaration of Independence is perhaps the most beautiful thing in the world!  For look what it made!  And yet, to read it, it doesn't come with any specifics...It  just 'watereth.'

Now isn't that something..remember how we started...how an itty bitty bumper sticker can lead to.... incorporation.... which can lead to capitalization ....which can lead to expansion.... which can lead to Emerson ....which can lead to the contagion to start a new day.  In idea form, it's called free enterprising -- as it's all about action and attitude hitting the open road.

Business is Great
People are Terrific
Life is Wonderful

In a free market, we call it just the beginning to something called compensation. Evidently, for our president, it stops at the corner of  'too much bull and broad' to fully comprehend, let alone DO without a bad attitude (or is it bad intentions? bwahahahahah)

Now carry on -- sprinkle -- and spread the word.

Make it a Good Day, G

It's an Open Letter to the Dissenter, Colin Powell, Thing

Dear Colin and to the rest of America,

you know, strolling down memory lane this morning, it was July 23rd, 2009 -- the Day After the president articulated his grand bargain for health care in a televised address to the nation -- when this American girl began to blog her way through it...

It was also the Day After Opening Day at the Del Mar Races -- and let's just say, it's a pretty big deal in my neck of the woods. But boy, have we come a long way baby since -- call it something like sixteen trillion horse lengths [Debt created or saved]  and 940 billion bayonets [initial cost of Obamacare] later...here we are.

But it was the stunning news of a repeat of a famous endorsement for Obama that is chapping my sweet little buns this morning.  And somehow or other we get back to a typical day at the races, when the majority of us use a rather unsubstantiated but highly scientific method for picking our horse -- by color.  Of course mine is usually pink!

But voting by color?  Seriously, Colin?  Oh and  I can go there because the vice president in the ticket you like already went there:  as in, when Biden said, 'they'll put ya'll back in chains.'  I'm merely posing a fair question -- last I checked, we live in a country which still believes in the freedom to think, feel, speak, and ask questions.

But no, you didn't exactly put it like that; all we know is that you're voting for Obama again WHILE still claiming you are still a republican.

Say what? You, dear Sir, are a republican dissenter.
And makes me wonder, just how would you vote between someone like an Allen West and Barack Obama...?  ah no matter...

Someone, anyone, find me another "republican" who is voting for Obama.

Not to mention -- as the former Secretary of State, Four-Star General of the Army, former Commander of US Army Forces Command, former National Security Advisor, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff -- this endorsement of yours comes the Day After SERIOUS national security questions come to the forefront of everyones minds; and putting it another way, we arrive at the Day After we find out our president lied.

So really, Colin, even After Libya?

You have got to be kidding me!

[For me, I can't understand it, other than it's just a situation of one black man honoring another black man with his trust.]

For that kind of trust, after the last four years --
  • after adding 6 trillion to our national debt in under four years -- when Obama called Bush "unpatriotic" for adding 4.5 T in eight;
  • after governing  without a budget for three years, let alone going "line by line" as promised, let alone trying to balance it;
  • after enacting a two trillion dollar behemoth health care law that will destroy our medical care system for a lifetime and bankrupt the country;
  • after not doing a thing on immigration reform even though the president had full control of congress until late 2010 -- only to have him, through Executive Order, grant amnesty to everyone under the age of 18 for a political pick up;
  • after campaigning on being the great UNITER, illuminating us with eloquence and grace that we're not 'a red America or a blue America' and then realizing where we are now ---  more divided, more partisan, more uglier to each other than ever -- [hey MR. President, the 60's called and they want your homegrown dissension ruining decades of hard-earned community gains back....]
  • after turning out to be NOT the "all of the above" in energy independence president we thought he was;
  • after vilifying the job creators, the wealth and business builders and risk takers for nearly his entire first term -- coupled with the stark reality that his vision for America runs counter to our founding principles and values...realizing now how his ideas for redistribution of wealth, dividing the have's from the have-nots, creating class warfare, are the cornerstones of his second term;
  • after beginning his presidency apologizing to the world for America's bad behavior in umpteen ways -- strategies, by the way, Colin, that you were very much a part of creating! --  and turning America's foreign policy into a policy of "appease and placate"
  • after this president plays politics with the definition, or is it the admission, of the 'automatic sequester' -- see here and then see here and then put two and two together...um, Colin, so you don't have a problem with our military being cut off at the knees?  The sequester is going to happen and you like it?
That's it.  I can't go on.   This is making me dizzy.

But boy,  that kind of trust of yours must be running some kind of blind -- except in one unthinkable way.

What is at the root of this kind of motivation?   All logic is for naught, all I can imagine is that it has to be to overcome the embarrassment of it all-- that you have to stick with him to save face -- that the big tough Four-Star General didn't make a mistake.    For any sign of objective intelligence back behind the man is not to be found; perhaps it was  left behind somewhere in the Middle East.  And I sure hope you clicked into that link, Colin.

And TO YOU, Devil Dog, you go on with that bad self.  ooh rah!

And just think, we haven't even discussed the questionable diplomacy of negotiating with terrorists, enemies, the Muslim Brotherhood yet...

Oh my, I don't know what else to say about this; feeling a wee bit ferklempt actually.

Just how does this American girl go on with her day?

So Colin, who are you and what did you do with the commanding, decorated, solidly objective Officer and a countryman?

After all this president has done to diminish America's presence in the world, after all this president has done to trivialize our efforts and accomplishments to bring peace and democracy, after all this president has done to divide us even here at home, after all this president has done -- or not done -- bringing us closer to a long hard fall off a fiscal cliff,  and despicably the DAY AFTER Obama's Big Lie to the American people on Libya is fully exposed, for HE KNEW!   -- and we get you, of all people, endorsing him?

This president has NO NEW IDEAS, after having all of his old ideas fail America miserably  -- and you give him your vote of confidence for four more?

This just in from a Rolling Stone interview with the president:

As we left the Oval Office, executive editor Eric Bates told Obama that he had asked his six-year-old if there was anything she wanted him to say to the president. ... [S]he said, "Tell him: You can do it." Obama grinned. ... "You know, kids have good instincts," Obama offered. "They look at the other guy and say, "Well, that's a bullshitter, I can tell."

Of course, this kind of response from our president doesn't surprise me anymore...given his entire performance of the last debate.  He IS so cool, isn't he though?

But Colin, you know who else has good instincts?    Approximately 50% of Americans, given the latest poll numbers.  Oh and the latest information on the so-called 'women's gap' -- oh no, say it isn't so; after weeks of trailing behind your fine idea of a president (at an astounding 18 points!), women are coming back to the middle -- for it's now a virtual tie at 47% a piece.  (Again, where have I heard 47%...oh now that would be looking backwards, now wouldn't it....let's keep the blinders on and keep moving forward, shall we?)

And speaking of the debate, America gives Romney the purse -- and hardly by a nose; according to Rasmussen, at a split of 49% to 41%, the Triple Crown in Debates goes to NothingbutMitt, and he happens to be a stud, too.

But this morning, I'm only hoping YOU check back with your instincts, Colin.  May I recommend a total gut check.   Oh, and no need to make any sudden announcements proclaiming you've seen the light, no.  Just allow the masses to keep thinking you haven't changed on president hope&change and vote for Mitt anyway.  Nobody will ever know (unless of course, the information gets leaked... but you don't have any problem with that, right? so point's moot.)   After  all, you did say you are still a republican....prove it!

That's it.  I have said my piece, in peace --  and maybe even too much -- but oh well; it wouldn't be the first time, and it certainly won't be the last.  And even so,  No Regrets is coming up from behind.

Finally,  let me be clear:   I still Like you -- just not in love with you --  Mr. Powell.

Make it a Good Day, G

It's A Falling Camel Attracts Many Knives Thing

Dear America,

so, are we clear with THE FACT that Obama chose Biden for the vice president's job because BIDEN came with foreign policy credentials?

think back now...

Obama came with literally no foreign policy experience.  None. Zilch.  NaDa.

So now close your eyes....and picture the world today and yesterday.  Roam through the early days -- foreign policy wise -- when it was the president, right out of the box, apologizing and appeasing to the Islamic world; picture the brush up with Poland and the take away of missile defense; picture Cairo -- the "rise of democracy" beginning with peaceful protests here to a day when "history takes place;"  picture deals made with a handshake until after the election; picture deals with longtime allies brazenly broken;  picture the rushed meeting on the tarmac - only out of embarrassment - only after the world found out the president never met the guy running the war - with Gen. McCrystal (quick synopsis, here); picture Pakistan, Afghanistan, bin Laden; flash forward and picture his sophomoric speech to the United Nations, still laser-beamed focused on the video that was NOT to blame for the murder of the ambassador and three others lives...the day in the life being SEPTEMBER 25th no-less, when he says, 'There are no words that excuse the killing of innocents. There is no video that justifies an attack on an embassy..."

It has been Obama, not Biden, who has led America in its foreign policy agenda.

It has been Obama, not Biden, who called for the Osama bin Laden raid -- the death being the cornerstone of the National Democratic Convention, and just imagine it, only days before the protests in the Middle East took place;  it was Biden who said “Mr. President, my suggestion is: don’t go.”  See here for details, by Marc Thiessen.

It has been Obama, not Biden, deciding the proper response time, the desired narrative, the intended message all through the days.

Ironic, isn't it -- looking back.

Americans got bamboozled.

It was nearly a month ago, almost to the day, when Romney was blasted by the president for "shooting first, taking aim later."   All just a part of the narrative unfolding...let's deflect and cry foul.

Romney's comments were made immediately after formal remarks coming out of the administration were heard worldwide.  So let's take them in order:

The administration, by way of the State Department, by way of the Embassy in Cairo, declared this:

"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."
This message came from somewhere first; you don't just send this out to the Arab world without approval.*

For back up:  Here is a link to a new hot spot I found for opinion via DiploPundit; this day, dates back to September 14th; just love how he starts out...

"Anyway here’s the thing — Foreign Service officers are really, really excellent at following the chalked lines. You don’t see a lot of rogue and old diplomats for very good reasons. And they, certainly, do not suddenly forget their clearance procedures because they were confronted with a badly made, badly written and badly acted movie clip in YouTube; much less, defy a direct order from the State Department when it comes to an official statement for public consumption. Unless, of course, the officer is looking to commit a career suicide. And I’m not convinced that is the case with man of the hour, Larry Schwartz."

Romney's immediate response to Cairo's condemnation statement, was simply this:

"I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."
* Now remember:   the Administration chose to distance itself from the statement made in Cairo nearly at the same time!

We are also well aware, now, that the statement which came out of Cairo came before the protests as a means to avert disaster; basically, calling out to all Arabs not to shoot, begging for reason; pleading to the Egyptian public not to overreact to the video, having heard rumblings of discontent in the area.

Here is a great interactive report with a time-line to walk you through the details; and who-knew, it's even from the NY Times...

BUT HERE'S an even better time-line...from The Heritage Foundation (unfortunately, being a post from October 8th, it comes without the added incriminating details from just yesterday's congressional hearing).

WITHIN 24 HOURS: everybody who is anybody in the administration knew LIBYA was attacked by terrorists. WITHIN 24 HOURS:  the video was not only beside the point -- it was never the point in Libya.  But WITHIN 24 HOURS: the story was crafted.  Now, talk about who's shooting first and taking aim later...

Let's bring this all together now.

And let's get one thing straight:  Biden is really nowhere to be found -- whether it be foreign or domestic, really.

And about the president's biggest mistake -- being unable to tell the story better -- every thing, as it turns out,  is about the narrative; every thing is about the way it looks, how it's perceived; it's always, and only, about the story -- whether it be true or false. [Go back and read Rules for Radicals, that should be your first clue]

But in the end, what we saw happening in Libya is really called -- now looking back -- a miscalculation.

Make no mistake.  It was Obama, as president, who elected to tell a story out of Egypt and Libya -- one that would make the most sense, and one that would align with the principles and policy of this administration and not make him look bad in the process.

  • It had to be something that denied any September 11th connection;
  • It had to be something that brought a little daylight  between the clear and present danger of having just spiked the football, of bin Laden's death, at convention, and really driving it home;
  • It had to reinforce the false belief that Al Queda is no longer a threat, that he did it -- he killed 'it';
  • It had to be able to fit into a re-election campaign.
  • And some might even say, it had to point to an extremist being at fault -- someone like a Coptic-Christian extremist...yeah, yeah, that might be just the ticket...
  • IT certainly couldn't point to a security weakness, requests for reinforcements turned down, or anything having to do with a position of a general, albeit prevalent, perception of weakness all the way around.
Let's remember the first pictures coming out of Egypt -- posters declaring "we're all Osama's now" and the people chanting "Obama, Obama, there's a billion Osama's".  Oh yes, the rise of democracy, indeed.

But let's be clear.  Biden has been a no show throughout.

Matter of fact, the administration works awfully hard at keeping Joe nip/tucked now.

Matter of fact, all things "Joe" haven't exactly worked out -- being the lead on the President's Jobs Council, being the lead at overseeing stimulus money.... These things are not exactly real winners, now are they? And how can we forget mr. big f*&%ing mouth and this is  a "big f*&*ing deal day"?

...now that was a good day in America, am I right?  am I right?

Libya is a mess; and it isn't for anything Romney said, suggested, or did.

Libya is a mess; and it isn't for anything Biden said, suggested, or did.

Libya is a mess; but as far as the ever-changing story, masterminded out of this administration, it begins as a serious miscalculation and ends badly.  [Lying is neither a good thing or a family value]

Libya -- along with the entire Middle East -- is a hot mess for America because of many things; and just like every other administration, only one man leads the way.  That man happens to be Barack Hussein Obama.

Ancient Arab Proverb says,
“A falling camel attracts many knives.”

...basically meaning, weakness is provocative.  GO HERE for the super good back story on that.

Once upon a time... a real leader accepts all responsibility from the get go, through thick and thin, foreign and domestic, and slays the evil dragon(s)..

It's Run Big Bird Run Thing

Dear America,

"If you don't have a record to run on,
then you paint your opponent
as someone people should run from.
You make a big election about small things."

Senator Obama running for office, 2008

THIS is how the answer began:

ROMNEY:  Good. I'm glad you raised that, and it's a -- it's a critical issue. I think it's not just an economic issue, I think it's a moral issue. I think it's, frankly, not moral for my generation to keep spending massively more than we take in, knowing those burdens are going to be passed on to the next generation and they're going to be paying the interest and the principal all their lives.

And the amount of debt we're adding, at a trillion a year, is simply not moral.

STRONG OPENING, indeed, but then, this is just G interrupting what he said. Please, continue:

ROMNEY: So how do we deal with it? Well, mathematically, there are three ways that you can cut a deficit. One, of course, is to raise taxes. Number two is to cut spending. And number is to grow the economy, because if more people work in a growing economy, they're paying taxes, and you can get the job done that way.

The presidents would -- president would prefer raising taxes. I understand. The problem with raising taxes is that it slows down the rate of growth. And you could never quite get the job done. I want to lower spending and encourage economic growth at the same time.

What things would I cut from spending? Well, first of all, I will eliminate all programs by this test, if they don't pass it: Is the program so critical it's worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? And if not, I'll get rid of it. Obamacare's on my list.

I apologize, Mr. President. I use that term with all respect, by the way.

OBAMA:  I like it.

ROMNEY:  Good. OK, good. So I'll get rid of that.
I'm sorry, Jim, I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I'm going to stop other things. I like PBS, I love Big Bird. Actually like you, too. But I'm not going to -- I'm not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for. That's number one.

OH yeah...he was starting out small...so please, mr. next-president-of-the-united-states, continue:

ROMNEY:  Number two, I'll take programs that are currently good programs but I think could be run more efficiently at the state level and send them to the state.

Number three, I'll make government more efficient and to cut back the number of employees, combine some agencies and departments. My cutbacks will be done through attrition, by the way.

This is the approach we have to take to get America to a balanced budget.

The president said he'd cut the deficit in half. Unfortunately, he doubled it. Trillion-dollar deficits for the last four years. The president's put it in place as much public debt -- almost as much debt held by the public as al prior presidents combined.

All this led into a two-minute answer from the president where he totally, unmistakably, fell apart.

So without further adieu, this is what happened --

21:28:35: LEHRER: Mr. President, two minutes.
21:28:37: OBAMA: When I walked into the Oval Office, I had more than a trillion-dollar deficit greeting me. And we know where it came from: two wars that were paid for on a credit card; two tax cuts that were not paid for; and a whole bunch of programs that were not paid for; and then a massive economic crisis.
And despite that, what we've said is, yes, we had to take some initial emergency measures to make sure we didn't slip into a Great Depression, but what we've also said is, let's make sure that we are cutting out those things that are not helping us grow.
So 77 government programs, everything from aircrafts that the Air Force had ordered but weren't working very well, 18 government -- 18 government programs for education that were well-intentioned, not weren't helping kids learn, we went after medical fraud in Medicare and Medicaid very aggressively, more aggressively than ever before, and have saved tens of billions of dollars, $50 billion of waste taken out of the system.
And I worked with Democrats and Republicans to cut a trillion dollars out of our discretionary domestic budget. That's the largest cut in the discretionary domestic budget since Dwight Eisenhower.
Now, we all know that we've got to do more. And so I've put forward a specific $4 trillion deficit reduction plan. It's on a website. You can look at all the numbers, what cuts we make and what revenue we raise.
And the way we do it is $2.50 for every cut, we ask for $1 of additional revenue, paid for, as I indicated earlier, by asking those of us who have done very well in this country to contribute a little bit more to reduce the deficit. Governor Romney earlier mentioned the Bowles-Simpson commission. Well, that's how the commission -- bipartisan commission that talked about how we should move forward suggested we have to do it, in a balanced way with some revenue and some spending cuts. And this is a major difference that Governor Romney and I have.
Let -- let me just finish their point, because you're looking for contrast. You know, when Governor Romney stood on a stage with other Republican candidates for the nomination and he was asked, would you take $10 of spending cuts for just $1 of revenue? And he said no.
Now, if you take such an unbalanced approach, then that means you are going to be gutting our investments in schools and education. It means that Governor Romney...
(CROSSTALK)
21:31:15: OBAMA: ... talked about Medicaid and how we could send it back to the states, but effectively this means a 30 percent cut in the primary program we help for seniors who are in nursing homes, for kids who are with disabilities.
21:31:22: LEHRER: Mr. President, I'm sorry.
21:31:26: OBAMA: And -- and that is not a right strategy for us to move forward.
21:31:28: LEHRER: Way over the two minutes.

THE THING IS -- from this exchange, the democrats thought it be wise to run on this "attack" on Big Bird ever since.  Spending quality time during campaign speeches turning Big Bird into the poster child for a campaign gone wrong; spending millions of dollars on commercials equating Bernie Madoff to the big, yellow, lovable favorite of Sesame Street...when in fact, when placed into proper context, what were ROMNEY'S exact words?

"I LOVE BIG BIRD.  Actually like you, too. But I'm not going to -- I'm not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for [it]."

Especially when those things are well supported by community, merchandising, a billion dollar broadcasting company -- and oh yeah, a $314, 000 base salary for the BIG YELLOW BIRD's creator and keeper and person under all those fine, fluffy feathers. [and read this from Mark Steyn]

[ But allow me to digress a moment:  READ the transcript on the night.  It gets even worse for the president when reading his answers.]

SO there you go -- BIG BIRD, part of the 1% -- along with a whole cast of characters large and small from PBS and NPR....

And sure, the measly stipend received by the federal government is just peanuts in the great scheme of life....

BUT THAT'S THE POINT!

It's the small stuff, added together, that contribute to the HUGE deficits.  ALL small things must go.  And like ROMNEY said, that's just the start.  Just before he said he would cut funding to PBS -- even though he also said he LOVES Big Bird in the same breath -- he mentioned Obamacare.  And what did he say?  He said he would "get rid of it."

What does the Left choose to focus on?  Big Bird.

Romney had just said he would TERMINATE, ELIMINATE, BURY Obamacare -- and they concentrate on Big Bird?  Obamacare was the president's trophy of his first term -- and they let Romney's comment slide?  They spend millions making a commercial on Big Bird?

How old are you now, Mr. President?

Moseying along now, Sesame Street is small pickings.  You're right.  But as we have just reviewed, the small stuff isn't really his point.

AND so getting around to the BIG STUFF -- Romney insists that it needs to be reformed; it needs to be repealed and/or replaced with a more efficient system, eliminating and punishing for fraud along the way, and fixed, solvently, in order to survive for future generations.

Isn't that what we all want?

Now Charles Krauthammer didn't hold back last night when asked about this Big Bird Bruhaha.

"I hope they run it til the end of time," classic Krauthammer said.  GO here for full story.

It trivializes the office of the presidency, he said.  Indeed.

But wait, there's more:  Obama approved this message.

What else can we expect from a thin-skinned president, after making a stunning, embarrassment of himself in front of 67 million viewers last week?

Here's context for you -- Romney comes off the debate gate and goes right into making one of his finest speeches on foreign policy.  What did Obama do?  He ran messages to save Big Bird. [Libya is still on fire, Jobs report is still not swallowed, and Obamacare is still not liked...but keep talking Big Bird]

ummm which reminds me of a game... which one is not like the other?

It's called shooting yourself in your big, yellow foot.  And I'm with Krauthammer -- I hope they run with it.

Make it a Good Day, G

oh and PBS to White House -- knock it off.
