It's All About Rick Perry Keepin' It Real Thing

Dear America,

keepin' it real.
that's what we want.

and whoever comes out being more real than the next guy, or girl, the better.

"America is going to be guided
by some set of values.
The question is going to be:
whose values...
[begging his audience to hold on and stay true to:]
those Christian values that this county was based upon."

Gov. Rick Perry
running for POTUS

Do you really think our general spirit of goodness and charity is just by accident?  a  natural occurrence, an evolution of the highest order, that just comes about organically all on it's own, kinda like a Big Bang or something?

All action is preceded by a thought -- best described as the creative genius directly responsible for making all things under heaven.  We NEVER do something without thinking about doing something first, even if it is only for a nano-second.

Of course, Perry was speaking to students at Liberty University -- the college where Jerry Falwell Jr. sits as Chancellor.  As the article linked here makes no qualms of mentioning right from the get go, Perry was "preaching to the choir."

But you should also know, Perry wasn't just catering to a political whim of the moment, he meant every word and has no intention of stifling his authentic Christian faith in any way.  He is just keepin' it real -- because it is (you know. ..real).

“happiest moments are when I’m in communion with God"

Excerpts from another article, out of ABCDallasnews.com adds,

"This country is your country, too. Don't leave it to a bunch of Washington politicians to tell you how to live your life. This is your future that we are debating today," he said.

Tailoring his message to the Christian crowd, he said: "You are blessed to live in freedom, but as the Scripture says, to whom much is given, much is expected in return."

For Perry, this Christian thing, isn't a costume; he isn't masking a hidden agenda; he isn't masquerading as something he's not; he is simply keepin' it real.  This is who he is, at the core.  This is where his beliefs and values come.

After this speech -- from a Christian candidate speaking as a Christian to a Christian crowd mind you -- it was hard to believe how the conversation last night, directed by Bill O'Reilly on Fox News (fyi: a real Catholic and Christian), quickly and unnecessarily turned into a platform for criticism.

...for O'Reilly, it was as if this Christian candidate, flamboyantly coming out of the closet like so, was the basis for having a real argument: that this Texan's faith carried the potential to really hurt him in the long run; it was as if it was just too much reality at once, or at all.  O'Reilly made it seem as if Perry would be dividing the populace by showing his true, authentic beliefs -- even when those beliefs are clearly shared equally within the context of his entire audience at Liberty U -- and even when those beliefs are built into the very foundation this country was made.  O'Reilly thought this sort of authenticity was just too much to bear.

welcome to the new world in America.

If our nation's Christian roots are not being viciously attacked -- they are being asked to hide, to go underground; shamed by just the idea of it, cast off as if illegitimate, discredited, mocked and ridiculed by just the thought of it, as everyday, fundamental, authentic faith through Christianity is equated to radicalized Islamic terrorists; while American Atheists are being allowed to become the new mouthpiece of secular social justice laying the foundation of our new America, making the absurdity of Freedom From Religion the people's new religion.

From one of my favorite sources of living water:
"In times like we are living in, ideas of radical obedience and self-denial fade into the background.  Even faithful Christians become soft and more tolerant of the moral decline of the world around them.  In general, most men and women think little issues of faith.  Since the majority of nominal Christians don't think much about their faith or take the time to study the Bible, it should not surprise us that they are not familiar with the very foundational tenets of authentic Christian faith.  Only those principles or doctrines that fit with the general tenor of the culture are observed as common practice.  The truths that stand in stark contrast to the systems of the culture are almost totally forgotten.  This is especially obvious when these teachings confront the problems of pride, luxury, and conformity to the culture.  Even the clergy seem afraid to tread too heavily on these subjects in their preaching for fear they will be regarded as fanatics."

An adaptation of William Wilberforce's A Practical View of Real Christianity (written in 1797) retold by Bob Beltz in Real Christianity
Can you believe that was circa eighteenth century?  Can you believe society has not learned a thing since?

Scratch that.  Maybe we learned it, but then quickly dismissed it -- or maybe little by little shied away from it -- and the more and more we turned away from it, the more normal it seemed; pretty soon things evolved and grew into a new normal, a new normal that smacks the old one right across the face as if we had grown possessed by some freak of the devil himself.  As if, all of a sudden, society needed a cleansing, an exorcism of the highest order...oh my god those people believe in God!

As if, keepin' it real, keepin' it really real, is a cause for real alarm.

wow.

Our founders made America a place for religious freedom ABOVE all else.  It was the very reason we had to leave England and find a new land in order to create a new world.

The "free exercise thereof" was divined within the framework of our founding documents, namely our Constitution, not as an insignificant gesture, or platform, banking upon the hope that no one would ever live according to one's beliefs -- it was real.  Our founders hoped we would keep our faith in something much greater than ourselves and let that Something rise above, if not truly guide us in our every day.

This "free exercise thereof"  lawfully protected all citizens to have the right to exercise their full liberty to speak their truth.   While, to be sure, to exercise thereof is hardly stagnant; it is solidifying the real action required of us.

Sure, they are just words, but these words are clearly, in actuality, and fundamentally, put to good use.

These words make up the atom, that which is part and parcel of the creative thought -- the Big Bang -- back behind the very creation of this country.

These very words serve as a greater purpose under heaven.

Congress may not establish one religion; the nation may not establish one religion; but man, in and of himself, may choose his religion and speak unabashedly, and often, and with unparalleled flamboyance, making real his authentic faith at any given time.  This right is protected.  [and as such, given it's rare occurrence, should be admired, honored, cherished as a sign of something really cool]

So -- here we are -- everyone is talking about this crazy, fanatical Texan; people are having conversations large and small about HIS faith.

Perhaps the question we should be asking ourselves is more like this, how strong is our faith?  How do we measure up in our actions, our words, our deeds when it comes to our own religion?  Are we being authentic?  Would our God be proud of us?  Do we speak in public declaring our truths, beliefs, and values and exercise that right freely given to us thereof without concern of being ridiculed, dismissed as fanaticism, declared a total loon, or even... denied a seat in the big white house for keepin' it really real because of it?

OR do we just whither away, fading into the dusty rose wall paper of our colonial roots -- keeping watch from a position indiscriminate to the naked eye -- without saying so much as another word?  And thereby, shockingly, allow secular think tanks, and atheists, and unbelievers, to not only tell us what to think, but dictate what is permissible in practice of our religious freedom, virtually stifling the "free exercise thereof"  and eradicating Christianity right before our very eyes.

We are being asked to intrinsically change everything -- from our traditions and holidays, to our principles and values, to even history itself.

Looking into our future, perhaps it will be our own cultural Christianity, our conformity to a secular separation from God, that ultimately reveals the hidden contagion with the real potential to kill us.  To think that this may be even possible is of course the first step for a course correction --  making way for a restoration of the fundamentals -- giving way to a new, new world that just so happens to date back centuries.

Me thinks God might be smiling down on Rick today, thinking to himself, thatta boy; perhaps it is we, ourselves, who have so little faith (or, have just grown too afraid to show it).

just sayin'.

just keepin' it as real as a little g can get.

Make it a Good Day, G

What America craves is the truth.  We want real people; we want real religion; we want real conservatives; we want real change (only if that change means the same thing: fiscal order, return to solvency and a balanced budget, and limited power of the federal government allowing a return to real freedom for everyone)

for somebody who is not keepin' it real...go here.

It's a ONE in Twenty-Three Thing

Dear America,

happy thursday x

so
as if I didn't already have a million thoughts going through my head this morning -- something that I just heard from my favorite young gun conservative talk radio program here in San Diego, beginning live at six a.m. on 760 KFMB -- the Mike Slater Show -- just said something that made me go wow.

Are you a Slater Crusader?  Did you hear what he just said?

Slater was reminding all of us of just how LUCKY we are to be born in the US of A.  There are 7 BILLION people on this planet and only 300 million are here, living in America, the greatest nation to experience life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. [which within seconds, a caller crunched the numbers even further and broke it down to a ONE in twenty three chance of being born HERE -- instead of Botswana, or Bolivia, or Bangkok]

Slater pointed out that because of this rare occurrence of being born in the country famous for freedom and liberty FOR ALL, we bear the full responsibility of upholding our inherent duty to it.  [aka the reality that freedom does not come free].

As highlighted in brilliant moments of last night's debate, we, as AMERICANS, have the freedom of protecting  and honoring our America along with enjoying it's perks [which we, by the show of the last fifty years, have learned to totally take for granted].

As one example, most every GOP player recognized that in order to fix the daily abuses of immigrating to America, we need to return to our roots -- beckoning all of us to come together with compassion, while holding tight to the expectation of every immigrant to assimilate with the whole in every way.

Breaking this down further -- and after making sure that our border was made secure to the best of it's ability --  this means requiring corporate America and business to uphold our employment laws already on the books; it demands English to be the official language; it expects those who chose to come to America to abide by our Rule of Law, and be fully respectful of fellow Americans, communities, and for all intents and purposes, to be just plain good people; in other words, the process of assimilation is a duty not a right.

But the real question remains, just how can we expect so much from our immigrants when we fail to do the same... considering that we, as Americans in general, have all but forgotten this inherent duty to each other, ourselves, and this country?  Talk about hypocrisy.

Now, on more than one occasion here on G thing, I have humbly proclaimed my own fall from grace; I admit wholeheartedly that I have made mistakes here -- I have taken my own freedoms and liberties for granted -- I have lived aloof and disconnected to my duty to my country -- I have fallen away from understanding my own responsibility to protect, defend, and honor the exceptional and inspirational place in which we live -- I am guilty.  I do not claim to be an expert nor do I believe my way of thinking ranks above anyone else. Each and every one of us is entitled to our own beliefs, arrived by our own experiences, personal evolution, and conscience.

Even if I never say this again, there is not a day that goes by when in fact I do not recognize how little I really am.  I am this big...which means, really small.

AND when it comes to our duty to each other and our country, what I really mean is that it is not so much about what you have to do at all and, in all honesty,  is more about me; this is the context I wish you never forget.

Contrary to what you might think, every pondering post upon
It's a G Thing
is less about absolutes and more about keeping a daily dialog with my self -- that pesky little old me --  and my country.  It details what I must do; it spells out how I might think; it capitalizes on what I must learn; it outlines what action I must take; it illuminates the direction I should go -- all according to me, G, just a girl, and according to a day in the life in America.  Also known as the place glorified by the rest of the world ...a place where the ONE in twenty-three deem really, really special... and why?

Because it is special here.
But more important --
we must ask ourselves,
how did we get here...
just what makes US so special?

What are the things
that make America
so exceptional,
so free,
so prosperous,
so worthy of our respect and unwavering defense?

It certainly couldn't be found in the latest discovery of medicare fraud that makes us so special.

It certainly couldn't be the robbery of the corner store and neighborhood bank that makes us so endearing.

It certainly couldn't be found in the rape and assault and murder of our fellow countrymen and women that makes us so attractive.

It certainly couldn't be found in the masterminding of ways to separate and disconnect us from each other, through the manufacturing of a false divide by religion, color, class or community that makes us so beautiful.

It certainly couldn't be found in the unlimited power of government frivolously spending our hard earned dollars, through entitlements, social security ponzi schemes, and the like [go Perry!] that makes us so exceptional.

It certainly couldn't be found in permitting the illegal crossing of our borders to find a better life, abusing our system and taking advantage of our compassion,  while disregarding all of those who venture to come to America legally, that makes us so loveable.

It certainly couldn't be through phony stimulus plans, too big to fail bailouts, overzealous governmental regulations, the devaluing of our dollar, the printing of money, the exponential growth of government that makes us so worthy.

It certainly couldn't be our losing of our religion altogether that makes us so good.

Just what makes us so special now?  It certainly couldn't be any of these things -- and this isn't even a complete list.  We are becoming just as muddled and mixed up as the rest of the world.  Why would anyone want to come here now?

so we had a GOP debate last night...and all I know is this:

I want a straight shooter coming into the presidency next time around.

I want someone who will honor and protect the America of the proverbial yesterday.

I want a return to universal values and principles that REALLY ARE proven (without the need for a scientist to prove or disprove and "settle" for us outside of our own fair and liberal use of common sense applied...and if you watched the debate you would know what I mean).

I want to live in a country with 300 million other Americans appreciative of our foundation, aligned with the full protection of our country's fundamentals, and fully prepared to do our duty to ourselves, each other, and our country in every way.

It may have been just my lucky stars to have been born here, at this time, in this age; and to question THAT, in and of itself, may take the rest of my life to figure out why, if not also require of me my full attention to the itty bitty details of life here in America.

Answering the age old question as to why we are here -- and why here, why not over there -- is fundamental to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness no matter where you are born.  It pushes us to find our way in life; it forces us to recognize what is inside us, what we are made of, what is it that makes us so special in order to give back to community, humanity, family, God, and life itself.

"All that is necessary
for the triumph of evil
is that good men do nothing."
Edmund Burke

Make it a Good Day, G

so, hey, don't forget to watch the president tonight...
...four in the afternoon here on the west coast...
...gonna have to leave the office quite possibly by three, depending upon your commute...
...but make no mistake, I am sure it will be worth it:
He will be announcing more spending (rumored to be at almost half a trillion dollars now) -- provide for an "Infrastructure Bank" (as if bank and infrastructure and the Fed in the same sentence doesn't print enough red flags to circle the world over 300 million times) -- continuation of the payroll tax deductions for another year -- extreme defense department cuts by jeopardizing our security success in Iraq, by way of making drastic reduction of 40,000 troops there and leaving "3000" to fend for themselves -- a call for the gang of twelve to settle the cut/cap/balance debate to "get it done" before November -- and what speech would be without diminishing, discrediting, and ridiculing the importance of the republican stance/demands -- and all in all, clinging to his Keynesian roots as the answer for everything.

It's a Meet your Maker Thing

Dear America,

Things, they are a'changin'...

and on that note, on this happy friday, may you consider yourself properly forewarned -- as my inner church lady is beggin' to have the floor.

First, from one of my favorite days -- in reverence to Lady Context, of course -- read G from March 2010.

This year, the Jewish Festival Tisha B'av begins on July 19th through August 9th, and like every year, includes the full reading of the Book of Lamentations within the Jewish community; the book, likely written by Jeremiah -- however, for the record, it, to this day, cannot be directly linked to anyone's hand -- is a poem lamenting the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonian army and King Nebuchadnezzer, in 586 B.C.  For more on the day, you can go here, for starters.  But to keep things flowing, let us move on...

This is the scene:

"The roads to Zion mourn...
Her foes have become her masters;
her enemies are at ease.
The Lord has brought her grief
because of her many sins.
Her children have gone into exile,
captive before the foe.

All the splendor has departed..."

Make no mistake, the gravity of this book of the Bible is huge; it rests in a simple truth -- that God keeps His promises -- God responds to us like a loving father.  Yes, it is true, He loves us unconditionally, for we are made in his image and it is good (usually); but when we break away from Him, it works the same way.  There comes a time for judgment, as in there really is a time for every season under heaven.

Jerusalem fell; and fell badly.  And they did it to themselves.

Now, just so you know, the prophet, Jeremiah, saw it coming.  He warned the Israelites to wise up, to straighten out and fly right; but they ignored it, continuing down the path of destruction, hardly believing that ultimately there would be consequences.

The thing is, to be people of faith, we actually have to ACT like people of faith. [go back to the last couple of days featuring William Wilberforce]  And sometimes, when we stray too far away from the principles, the firm foundation from which we gain our strength and good character, all a father can do is allow for a pure 'meet your maker' kind of moment to take over.

America is experiencing this Meet your Maker moment everywhere we turn -- Debt Ceiling Debate, Balanced Budget, Overspending on Entitlements, liberal indoctrination of our children, living indebted to other nations, lawlessness within our own government, unethical representatives, an administration hell bent on creating Class Warfare and spinning America into chaos...only to name a few.

But the greatest fall comes with our unprecedented cultural decline from living our lives from... through... by...for... the Grace of God; through and through, as a people, we are falling and failing God in every way.

The final words of Lamentations (Jeremiah) leave us on our knees:

"You, O Lord, reign forever;
your throne endures from generation
to generation.
Why do you always forget us?
Why do you forsake us so long?
Restore us to yourself, O Lord, that we
may return;
renew our days as of old
unless you have utterly rejected us
and are angry with us beyond measure."

Make no mistake; It is a God who responds to us--  while to be sure, He answers to many names. Which is why our founders often referred to "It" as our Creator; for the word God IS magical, creative, natural; It can be anything we want It to be.  And just to keep the atheists from having a coronary this happy friday morn, let me say this:  you do not have to believe in God to talk about God (just like you do not have to believe in global warming to have an opinion on it and be part of the discussion); just because you give God no power over you, doesn't mean It doesn't dwell all around you.

IT. God.  IS.  It is the creative life force back of all things seen and unseen as according to your own beliefs. And, to be a non-believer of such Greatness, Omnipotence, clearly puts you in a huge minority,  no matter where you live around the globe.  It is just a fact.  But let's not dwell, shall we...

William Wilberforce followed the path much like a certain prophet, Jeremiah.  He gave his fellow countrymen a fierce warning, relying in whole, or in part, of his fellow man to be of good conscience in every way, to live by an authentic faith,  to restore a real Christianity actively demonstrating in their lives.

"The path they are now pursuing
is not the one made
by the work of Christ
and will not lead them to the life
they are desiring
nor the peace for which they crave."

Wilberforce, 1797 A.D.

And here we are today, on a happy friday in July, in the year of our Lord, two thousand and eleven.

And so what brought this stark Meet your Maker experience through the eyes of this American girl upon this happy friday morning?  An alert sent to me in my email...

As a nation, we need to be well aware that MAN does not SAVE or CREATE anything (including jobs).  The source of all that man is -- everything that man can be, do, or have --  comes from One Creative Life Force (whether you are in agreement with it or not).

It is time to be on our knees "to renew our days as of old."  It is as simple as that.  We have royally &^%#'d up as a nation, as a people, as a keeper of the Peace that passes all understanding.

And that email...  It sent this happy little heart to this.

This is historic.
Whether we do a rain dance, kiss the Temple wall in Jerusalem, happen to show up at Reliant Stadium in Houston on August 6th, or simply bow our head and give thanks to the grace of God every day from here on out... let it be done.  Let it be done. For it is all good.
While it is only prudent to point out, history proves, we don't stand half a chance if we don't.

and hey, to my little inner Church Lady, you go girl...no really, it is time for you to go.

Make it a Good Day, G
