Dear America,

Splendid explanation for what's going on in the world was discovered in this morning's horoscope -- via YAHOO! and Astrology.com; the prince of planetary shenanigans has been prophesied by Mark Lerner for some time now.  For me, I think of it as fun and games, just a little creative majesty to my day; never have I ever literally taken the word of Lerner and marched forward based upon What Would Pluto Do, you know what I'm sayin.

But having said that, this morning -- and a Happy Columbus Day Monday Morning to you, too! -- I got such a rush, I just have to share it with you.

Marky Mark Mars said this, when generalizing about the aspects upon us:

"The Universe bruised the human kingdom on Spaceship Earth from November 2008 to July 2010 by tossing five Saturn-Uranus zodiacal oppositions into our cosmic neighborhood in the galaxy. Pushing your personal agenda [which by the way, is often frowned upon in the nature of things horoscopic] without regarding to others is a no-win situation.  The past (Saturn) and future (Uranus), logic and intuition, conservative and revolutionary forces, are vying for supremacy right now."
Well blow me down, get off of my cloud, there may be something to this Rastafarian relationship of wonder and delight.

hmmm just what occurred around that time; respective of the premise and time frame, does anything come from the back of the mind and into our present day reality with a jaw dropping thug?

Yeah, I thought so.

Hey, and how about those Israelites who are on the verge of polarizing Arabs that much more with their latest push for cultural integrity and supremacy -- gotta love the personal agenda rising to mercury levels when it comes to nation building, no?

Brilliant really; legislating loyalty on return for citizenship, what a novel idea.

Of course, it triggered shouts of racism, purposely calling it racial profiling,  from the Arab community, as a way to control the "inferior status" of Arabs into law, within the country.  Netanyahu simply says, "whoever wants to join us has to recognize us."  This comes by way of calling for a brand new "loyalty oath" when becoming a citizen of Israel -- answering the age old question, who's flag flies now?

Ah, that would be Israel's.

SO we have Obama's reign of unpopularity rising to it's highest levels, after a period say between 11/08 through 7/10, that has everyone begging for mercy, crying out for the end of retrograde policy and proforma -- while faced with immigration issues here, and far away in the Middle East, coming to a head in every way conceivably possible; we are at the peak of something -- what that is, is any one's guess; while good old Mr. Lerner has blessed us this morning, by shedding a little light on a thing or two.

Ah, it could just be all poppycock, there is that; just loo loo airy fairy mumbo jumbo, that's all it is, take it for what it is -- or sit back and go hmmmmmmmmmm, interesting.  It really doesn't matter; Obama will continue to go on his merry little way left, Netanyahu will continue to veer his merry little way right, and somewhere along the way the revolutionary forces amongst us will act accordingly.  Isn't that wonderful?!

For 'just a girl', when I come across a blip of whimsy in the midst of the catastrophic underpinnings of an entire nation (or two) in perfect flux, I just gotta stop; the magnificence of the Universe not only aligns with the times, it brings enlightenment, if we so choose to accept it; almost like a nudge telling us, we can do this the hard way or the easy way, which would you prefer, as it slides a Hershey bar across the table.

The more I listen to the left, the media, the pundits and the president who keep on saying this is all Bush's fault, the GOP has no new ideas, the money changers of Wall Street are to blame, while the Chamber of Commerce is out to destroy America -- I just have to laugh, as they just don't get what's going on right now -- at least, not in the sense of the deepest, darkest, cosmic, polarization of the masses -- what with our heads spinning on their axis, circling Pluto as we speak (while, it's not even considered a planet anymore), and on a revolution unfit for long term survival throwing us into a tailspin.

There is a loyalty factor amongst us that no one on the left seems to notice, let alone feel obliged to cling to for their own good, for that life in America we all love and adore; however, we the people recognize who we are now -- and struggle with the forces amongst us who wish that part of us harm.

Much like the Israel Loyalty Oath, so much of who we are and what we do here in America, is largely symbolic; it is always the small gestures, the big picture, the e pluribus unum reaching across state lines -- and specifically once you cross our borders -- allowing for the individual magnificence to melt into one, and coming together like one big happy milky way family, sparkling across the night sky.

We are not separate people vying for supremacy, with a personal agenda leading the way (this is where MR. I AM PRESIDENT, hear me roar, gets it soooo wrong, like soooo last galaxy  -- cuz he's a Leo, you know); we are ONE nation, and it is called the United States of America.  We raise one flag (once, even on the moon!); we share one language; we celebrate every one's God, because we honor God and that's what we do; and we fight for unity and equality for all, for rich or for poor, in sickness and in health, until death do we part.

WE, as a country, took a vow way back in 1776; and there is no way we are going to sit back idly by, watching our world slip away from us fading into a long, long time ago without a fight, the good fight [remember when candidate Barack claimed Afghanistan to be "the good war" -- chilling just how juvenile his international experience with conflict really is -- NO war is "the good war" -- but now look at him, he just wants out.  Duly noted: the timing and characterization fits the horoscope to a tea.]

Whoever wants to join 'U.S.' must recognize 'U.S.', and live under the laws of nature, the rule of law, the Universe, and perhaps with a little Divine Providence thrown in for good measure; and what a beautiful world, when we wake up one morning only to find reinforcement waiting for us to catch up.

To steal an idea from Star Wars -- let us come to a close with one thought: may the force be with you, and for all of us, today and tomorrow, whether Saturn-Uranus comes out to play with us, or not.

Happy Monday, and thank you, Mark for your daily insight with flare and finesse -- and to good old boy, Chris, for the discovery made that makes this all possible (yes... believing wholeheartedly in fairy tales, rainbows, and unicorns too).

Make it a Good Day, G

Dear America,

Goooooooooood Morning, Amerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrica!

There is something in the air, can't quite figure out what it is quite yet, but I feel a change is coming...no,  I know what it is.

For those of you who know me, fall is my favorite time of year -- and that, I smell, is right around the corner, right next to the Starbucks and five and dime.

But first off, I had to sit out a day for reasons being, one, my girl was in need of her mama, and for two, I was lingering over a happy moment from the day before...a moment when someone more left meets someone more right comfortably somewhere in the middle of understanding and mutual respect.

In the words of my new best friend, Jennifer, speaking much like someone -- and as one who does not identify herself as a conservative -- coming to meet me for coffee or a glass of wine:

"lets me understand what I think must be true of most folks who on the surface seem to have different politics.  We all want life to be better and more coherent -- I think we just interpret history differently, and have a different sense of what power is."
I get such a thrill when east meets west, when north meets south, when left meets right, when just simple thoughts connect us at a level we can effortlessly recognize and understand -- at the heart.

I have no idea how left she leans, or how front and center she might sit, but it doesn't really matter in this moment, for the connection was made and is real...and it feels good.

That's all I'm saying.

It feels good...and thank you, Jennifer, for showing me how possible the impossible can come about.

And isn't that what America is all about, really...the melting into one nation, indivisible, with justice and the pursuit of happiness for all.

We came together, as a nation, from birth, with guarantees to no one -- and only getting a whiff of the possibility of what the pursuit of happiness might bring, as evident in those who came before us;  the making, the inventing, the creating,  the engineering, the showing up somewhere for an honest days work was in the air all over America, but the breathing it in, the embodiment was all up to us; taking that whiff all the way to market was entirely up to the individual, and by design -- and should still remain.

The wanting to learn, had to come from deep inside us.

The ambition to make something of ourselves, in spite of whatever wrongs came down our path, had to come from a deeper place, one that very possibly may be hidden and hard to find.

The talent, the skill, the action to fulfill our every dream and put bread on the table, could only be unhinged and let loose with our own two hands, our own two feet, our own determination to make it here, there, or anywhere.

What the article of radical homemakers stirred up for me, was the resurfacing of this inner strength and conviction to change our circumstances, to repair what is broke, to rebuild what's in shambles, to reignite what is inside us.  We are at will to change both our homestead and the community in which we live -- and need nothing more than the inherent power within us all, equally and fairly, to do it.

We don't need affirmative action to get there.

We don't need the government's help to get there.

We don't need anything but what is already inside us.

I have actually been going through a really rough time -- this year has seen more change, more upside down circumstances, more mishaps and wrong turns, than one girl should ever have to endure. While in this moment -- with fall in the air and an appreciative word from my new best friend -- the hardship can be easily hidden from view to the outside.  G can tap away as if not a care in the world.

Little do you all know that right here and now, I sit seemingly content most days only because my little tush hit first.

Oh, but for those who do know, I get affirmations daily from angels unaware and distant family who feel me without even saying a word.

If you will indulge me for a second, let me share the latest ha-ha moment -- via my mama from east coast to west.  She is famous for clipping out things she would love to buy for you, but sending the picture instead; and I know right there, it sounds like a dig, but it isn't!  It is pure love expressing -- as it is clearly in touch with a feeling, an emotion, and from across the miles it is instant connection, like no more dial up -- just high speed, in the vein, fireball of love...can you feel me now, kind of thing.

Anywho, she sent a worn corner of a catalog showing a paperweight.  On this "made in Rhode Island of lead-free solid pewter" said the words from Winston Churchill,

"If you're going through hell, keep going."
Nahhhhh, I thought I'd stay awhile...

That's what I am talkin' about.

This is the American spirit at work, through the mind of a brilliant Brit, at it's very best. (I love Churchill, remember now, it was Kennedy who made him an honorary citizen one day in the Rose Garden...gotta show some love for that, too...you see what the changing of a season into fall does for me...oh, you get me now...)

For $35.00, you too can have this little reminder, and support the craftsmen of Rhode Island, by going to www.uncommongoods.com/ or calling 888- 365 - 0056...and no, I know what you're thinking now, G is not being paid for the plug, so have at it.

The thing is, today, I feel like America is in a state of some sort of purgatory; it's like we can't decide which way we are going to go.  Do we stick with what has worked for 234 years, that which has been at times rocky for sure, but at best, steadfast and pure of heart and good intentions for so long; or do we allow for the diversity and uncommon politics to get the best of us, not meeting somewhere in the middle, not bridging the east with west, not bringing the south north, and not taking the opportunity of finding that place found hidden in the soul, at the heart of a nation, and as leader to the free world?

And not only are we in the midst of this confused state, we are paralyzed in the motion of pointing fingers everywhere but to our very own root cause; for it is easier to look to the problem outside of ourselves, somebody Else's fault, fate, circumstance, bad timing, poor judgement, wrong turns, the previous administration, improper business practices, lying, cheating, corruption and overall fatigue, blaming it all on anyone else, but our self.  (and of course, while there, in the muck on the bottom -- no really the bottom, bottom-bottom, can't get any worse or lower or out of this world bad --  in Sarah Bernhardt style -- take on the victim mentality, whine and cry and the whole shebang...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah....woe is me.)

Nope.

We don't stand for that in America.

Adversity is a test of time and tolerance and tenacity and transition; our ability to transcend emotionally, mentally, spirtually and ultimately physically, is everything -- and thereby builds a life.

Another guardian angel and kindred spirit of mine, reminded me recently of this, let's just call him "Fred":

"There is a philosophy that says the universe keeps giving us opportunities / lessons that we need to work through / come to terms with and accept before we can move on to something new."
I guess it is just that for some of us, and I'm not pointing fingers here, just haven't re-founded that same level of -- understanding, if you will?

(and not for people like Jen, can I call you Jen? my new best friend -- and for God knows, not me either, even when all I really want to do is sit and wallow in it here and now, along with a box of bonbons and Kleenex, notwithstanding looking straight out my window to the gorgeous August afternoon)

We may not all agree on the surface, but deep down, we know each other and want what's best for each other, and want a life better for our children than we wish for ourselves, and maybe even have a chance to bake our own bread occasionally and go to the farmer's market while we do it, all in the peace and quiet of a nation melting into one body, with the welcoming spirit of fall keeping the company of strangers, angels, and new friends -- for this is the United States of America, and a good morning it is.

We are never too far apart as one nation under God, call It whatever you will (even Allah, works, when we come in peace and mutual respect); we are not that far apart, indeed.

What we have here, is a breakdown in communication; we have lost something in translation; we have mass confusion and frustration going on as we all hit rock bottom not on our bums, unfortunate enough, but upon our noggins; some of us will bounce back all on our own, others will stay for awhile mistaking the circumstance as final fate; but everyone, from left to right, will look to the leaders of this nation and seek clarity, concern, compassion, conservative and wise spending, complete honesty, continuity in the principles and values that have been tested through all time and society's large and small -- and perhaps, if it is comes up in conversation, a whole lot less of pointing fingers.

But in a nutshell falling from our family tree, a government built upon self-reliance was the key to our success, the meat with our potatoes, the duality of outcomes equal to all people, in principle and with every day proper use.

Albeit that somebody else decided for me, but President Obama is my president, too; a sense of understanding of this great duty is all I ask of him and of anyone farther left who wish to further rub the raspberry on my buttocks.

All we really need is the return to the Golden Rule, and just maybe, we have half a chance to grow that garden of Eden we always wished we had, or just maybe, we could spin the air and move mountains and somehow create the heaven on earth for all people of all politics, and just maybe, a couple of girls, who on the surface appear to be going in entirely two different directions, can find themselves sipping out of the same fountain.

A girl can dream, can't she?

Make it a Good Day (because nobody else will), G

we all have a gift to share; we all have a casserole to bring to the table; we all have the ability to come together, and not be torn apart through bad politics...catch the video on Dear America, please.  be inspired to be part of the solution (and there are many)....the choice is ours, individually, and collectively everything will correct itself...

Little Jackie is an angel, divinity in action, and an American Girl  for us all.

Dear America,

 "Peace, Commerce, and Honest Friendship
with All Nations -- entangling alliances with none."
Thomas Jefferson

"Observe good faith and justice toward all nations.  Cultivate peace and harmony with all.  Religion and morality enjoin this conduct; and can it be that good policy does not equally enjoin it?  It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and, at no distant period, a great nation to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by an exalted justice an benevolence."
George Washington

"Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence, I conjure you to believe me, fellow citizens, the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government.  But that jealousy, to be useful, must be impartial, else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided instead of a defense against it." Washington

"The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations, is in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible.  So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith.  Here let us stop."  Washington
To yesterday,

"We can do so if we create a safer border, a border that will unite us instead of dividing us, uniting our people -- We can do so with a community that will promote a dignified life in an orderly way for both our countries."  Mexican President Felipe Calderon

The South Lawn was the scene, along with Mexican and U.S. flags flapping together like the mexican hat dance, with the props of cheering school children, waving the two Presidents on, for the moment of greatness and grandeur to poetically and politically ensue.

"I say to you and to the Mexican people: Let us stand together,"
Mexican--Muslim -African-American President
Barrack Hussein [Jesus, pron. hay-suse] Obama

We have apparently skipped over securing the border to just tearing down the wall, what's left of it anyway.

Along with the recent escapades in China -- starring our very own U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Michael Posner -- discussing Arizona's law as a "troubling trend," ripe with "issues of discrimination" with a rogue dictator nation who gets it's kicks starving and murdering their own, atrocities in Tibet, and issues of forced abortion, if heaven forbid a woman has not conceived a boy, or for population control, along with the day to day reality that if anyone who might cross it's borders be subject to hard labor for life, or even immediate death -- we seem to be taking our foreign policy to a whole new level of kiss ass all around the world.

Did America slip into some kind of black hole? If we hadn't just emasculated our space program, I would have thought we had fallen into some kind of perverse universe, or something.  Or maybe I'm just getting dazed and confused by the nation's slip and slide into Margaritaville.

Hello?  Hola, anyone seen America?  I know she's around here somewhere.

You know, an American cannot buy any property in Mexico, ever.  The closest thing you can get to a stucco-ing your own mi casa es su casa is a 99 year lease -- and even that has it's own caveats and idiosyncrasies.  It's Mexico.

A gringo cannot go to Mexico, without perhaps an attorney these days -- just in case the Federales throw you in jail just for looking like a stupid American.  The police are renowned for just pulling you over and hauling you into jail -- oh unless, you have a handsome Benjamin  lying around.  Then, you may get lucky.

For years, Americans have crossed the border down south, crossing their fingers that everybody behaves and nobody looks at you funny...as minding your p's and q's is ratcheted up to a whole 'nother level.

If you go, you need to know Spanish and the current exchange rate; otherwise, you could be taken for a ride -- whether it is just in a taxi, dinner, or the ceramic Elvis you just had to have.

If you go, some may say, an American risks his life nowadays -- what with the drug wars and gang violence.

The truth is, it was always a concern, even twenty years ago; as an American, you always had to be aware of your surroundings, know where you are going, and appear to blend in without causing any trouble.  That's just the way it was -- and is today, albeit worse, if it could ever really be.

As crazy as it may sound, it was all about respect...the same sentiment of when in Rome, when in Rosarito -- if you come with respect, honoring the culture, and obeying the laws and your inherent responsibility of adhering to them at the very intersection of time crossing over the line, no worries.

My home-girls and I would venture down to an Americanized compound just south of Rosarito, called Las Gaviotas, buenos dias mucho.  Again, you could buy a homestead there, just never really own it.  The government could take it from you at any time -- and sometimes they did.  Even for people who had property south of the border for a generation, or two; even for people who spent years hand tiling their floors and mantels, searching out furnishings of leather and fine wood, hanging plates and art pieces to their freshly whitewashed walls.  It was just an understanding between communities; no harm was ever really meant, I think.
The best thing was just sitting on the deck catching the soft ocean breeze with tequila and lime, eating ceviche tostadas, basking in the abundance of sunshine on Mexican time, with not a care in the world.

The people of Mexico have actually loved Americans coming down -- and possibly still do, just I haven't crossed the border now in years.  But if my memory serves me well, and I truly believe it does, the taco stands were always a mix of gringos and the neighborhood, enjoying the same carne asada with cilantro, guacamole and lime together, in a unique blend of culture and camaraderie.  They needed us as much as we needed them, and there was no border line in-between us.

Calderon has called for us to basically "unite" our borders now -- as if asking, in some kind of off-beat way, to disregard there ever was one.  Ahh si, who needs a border...borders divide us...they stand for bad will....they discriminate...and offer no help to the Mexican people whatsoever.

And then there goes our very own President of the United States of America, saying si, I agree, let us "stand together" as one nation, indivisible, under God, tell the clergy everyone -- uniting church and state now with every sense of the word, elevating another liberal universe where wonders never cease...but that which we will save for discussion for another day.

Our nation is becoming globalized and politicized with the rest of the world -- and I do believe, if Washington or Jefferson were sitting at the taco stand next to us today, they would muster their best Spanish and say, 'no comprende senior' at the top of their lungs -- or maybe, 'mi casa es mi casa immedioso' when you are ready to respect mi case, beinvenidos, until then, adios.

For perhaps they knew then, what may be, far more than we know now -- the revelation that politics and tequila do not mix (just as politics with Saki; just as politics and Ouzo; just as politics and Vodka; just as politics with Limoncello; just as politics with Champagne; just as politics with a yummy Amber Ale -- which is ironically back to where we started.)

Make it a Grande Bueno Day, G

You know what's funny, part of southern california's electricity may get cut off -- if you don't here from me for a few days, you will know why...  apparently, given the LA/SD Boycotts of Arizona, a place most notable in this moment to give us our lights and refrigeration among many other creature comforts and favorite things -- THEY may boycott business back.  Too funny.

And just to be clear -- I love Mexico -- adore the culture -- and for a little bit of TMI, was actually conceived in Mexico, as the romance is told.  I say viva la Mexico, but not at the exception of our very own America.  Yes we can secure our southern border, with the same level of adherence and discipline and regulation as every other nation -- of course with a whole lot more compassion and human rights thrown in, unlike China, or North Korea, or North Vietnam, or Iran...just saying.
